A New Year’s Eve Party for Two

New Years Eve party at home

Can you believe New Year’s Eve is tomorrow?! While I think we’re all ready to kiss 2017 goodbye, I can’t believe how fast the holiday season has come and gone. I’m trying to cram as many Christmas light viewings and bad holiday Lifetime movies in the next few days as I can.

When it comes to New Year’s Eve though, my husband and I almost never know what to do. Each year we debate about whether to go out like most people our age or stay in and watch other people going out on TV. This year my husband won the debate. So while I might convince him to go out early for one drink, we’ll be sipping our champagne at home when the ball drops in Times Square on tape delay.

At least I’ll get to see what Mariah Carey does this year.

If you’re staying in like us, bring the festivities to you and make it a party for two. It’s not too late to pick up a few supplies to add a little glitz to your house. Here are some tips for throwing an inexpensive, last-minute New Year’s Eve party for two.

Hit the Holiday Clearance Section

The benefit of grabbing your New Year’s supplies a day or two before is EVERYTHING is on sale. Target has 50% OFF all of its holiday decor and party supplies right now. I grabbed a fun pack of New Year’s hats, necklaces and noisemakers for $3 and some cute holiday cocktail napkins for $1!

I used the necklaces that came in the Spritz party pack as decor for our table.

Repurpose Christmas Supplies

Even if it’s just two of you, add some decorations to make your house more festive! Repurpose Christmas tinsel, gift wrap and tissue paper to make a glitzy New Year’s tablescape. Although I can’t promise you that your cat won’t try to take that tinsel down.

Grab Photobooth Props

Print out or pick up some fun props to use for New Year’s Eve photos. Strike a pose in front of your tinsel backdrop for an at-home photobooth.

Make a Quick New Year’s Dessert

If you don’t want to be left with an entire cake tempting you after New Year’s when you’re trying to be good, make these quick parfaits from Home Is Where the Boat Is. I just sliced up store bought pound cake and layered it with pudding, bananas and whipped cream to assemble mine. They’re perfect for two! I topped mine off with these cute holiday stir sticks from the Target clearance.

Don’t forget the Champagne!

Last but not least, pick up a bottle of bubbly! I love Trader Joes and CostCo’s inexpensive house brands, especially TJ’s sparkling rosé. Grab an extra bottle for mimosas the next day!

I hope whether you go out or stay in this year, that you have a fabulous and safe New Year’s Eve celebration.

Cheers!
