It’s the first Tuesday of the month, which means it’s time for a new Tuesday Tunes! In case you couldn’t tell from my Instagram, I’m really into the Christmas spirit this year. I don’t think I’ve ever decorated before December 1st until this year. Maybe it’s owning my first house or being a little more jolly from all of the running I’ve been doing to train for my holiday half marathon, but I’m so ready for Old Saint Nick to visit. The Xmas tunes are already going in my house, but I know how easy it is to get burnt out on the Mariah Carey and Bing Crosby ballads that play on repeat all day, every day in every store. To help you share in the holiday joy without slowly slipping into madness, I’m sharing Christmas music you’ll want to listen to all season in today’s Tuesday Tunes playlist.
I’ve got covers and original songs from indie rock, folk rock, 80’s and classic rock artists for every mood you could (and probably will) go through during the holidays. If you’re the type who thinks you’re too cool for Christmas music, check out “Christmas Treat” from Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas and “The Christmas Song” by the Raveonettes. If you’ve got a case of the holiday blues, embrace your emotions with Courtney Barnett’s “Boxing Day Blues” or “It’s Christmas So We’ll Stop” by Frightened Rabbit. Or if you just want to snuggle up by your tree, listen to “Winter Song” from The Head and the Heart and Low’s “Just Like Christmas.”
Yes, I did include a few classics from The Beach Boys, The Waitresses and Darlene Love that will be in rotation at every store in the mall, but they’re tracks I still love. Along the same old school track, I’ve included a few lesser known Christmas songs from other greats like Otis Redding’s “Merry Christmas Baby” and “Father Christmas” from the Kinks.
